OVERVIEW
The watchmaking school of Le Locle, founded in 1868 by Henri Grandjean, is one of Switzerland’s oldest and most respected horological institutions. Renamed the Technicum du Locle, it became renowned for producing highly skilled watchmakers through rigorous technical training. In the 1960s, its graduation projects required the creation of complex timepieces. One such watch features a 36 mm steel case, a silvered dial with gold applied indices and Arabic numerals at 12, and the signature “Technicum Le Locle.” It is powered by a Valjoux 88 chronograph with triple calendar and moon phases—the same movement used in the iconic Rolex Dato-Compax, also known as the “Killy.” The movement showcases beveled and polished parts, Geneva stripes, and refined finishing. The case, signed by Spillmann—famed supplier to brands like Rolex and Patek Philippe—adds to the rarity and collectibility of the piece. It is a striking example of the Locle school’s horological excellence.
